Your father’s blessings

« Isaac trembled violently and said, “Who was it, then, that hunted game and brought it to me? I ate it just before you came and I blessed him–and indeed he will be blessed!” »

27 He went over and gave him a kiss. When Isaac smelled his clothes, he blessed him and said, “The smell of my son is like the smell of open country that the Lord has blessed.

28 May God give you dew from the sky, fertile fields on the earth, and plenty of fresh grain and new wine.

29 May nations serve you. May people bow down to you. Be the master of your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you.
May those who curse you be cursed. May those who bless you be blessed.”

30 Isaac finished blessing Jacob. Jacob had barely left when his brother Esau came in from hunting.

31 He, too, prepared a good-tasting meal and brought it to his father. Then he said to his father, “Please, Father, eat some of the meat I’ve hunted for you so that you will bless me.”

32 “Who are you?” his father Isaac asked him. “I’m your firstborn son Esau,” he answered.

33 Trembling violently all over, Isaac asked, “Who hunted game and brought it to me? I ate it before you came in. I blessed him, and he will stay blessed.”

34 When Esau heard these words from his father, he shouted out a very loud and bitter cry and said to his father, “Bless me too, Father!”

35 Isaac said, “Your brother came and deceived me and has taken away your blessing.”

36 Esau said, “Isn’t that why he’s named Jacob? He’s cheated me twice already: He took my rights as firstborn, and now he’s taken my blessing.” So he asked, “Haven’t you saved a blessing for me?”

37 Isaac answered Esau, “I have made him your master, and I have made all his brothers serve him. I’ve provided fresh grain and new wine for him. What is left for me to do for you, Son?”

38 Esau asked, “Do you have only one blessing, Father? Bless me too, Father!” And Esau sobbed loudly.

39 His father Isaac answered him, “The place where you live will lack the fertile fields of the earth
and the dew from the sky above.

40 You will use your sword to live, and you will serve your brother. But eventually you will gain your freedom and break his yoke off your neck.”

A father has tremendous power over the life and destiny of his child.

Any wise child will always seek to get the blessings of his father, whether biological or spiritual.

One day I had just returned from a journey with a big bag in each hand when two of my children-in-the-Lord came to welcome me. The one who got to me first just offered a greeting, while the other took the bags from me immediately. I turned to the one who took the bags and said God bless you. The other said Daddy, you did not say God bless you to me. I replied; You saw me carrying the bags, but you didn’t help.

If you want your father to bless you, provoke him to do so.

The father’s blessing is irreversible.

In our memory verse, when Isaac realized that he had blessed Jacob instead of Esau, even he could not reverse it.

Once your father blesses you, you are blessed forever.

Blessings can come from the soul, heart and mouth.

Jacob asked Esau to make him a delicacy so he could bless him from the soul (Genesis 27:1-7).

A father can bless three of his children, but one would still be greater than the rest because of the father’s special love for him.

How much does your father loves you? Proverbs 10:1NET says:

Is your father usually encouraged to pray for you or are you a child who provokes him to anger regularly?

Some people hardly send money to their old parents; some hardly call them talk less of going to visit them. Treasure them.

Whatever you do, ensure that you get as many blessings as possible from your father before he dies.

Application – Do something for your father today that will provoke him to bless you. If you are a father, call your child or children and bless them from your soul.
