Memorize: Ruth 1:16 A Faithful Version (AFV)

« And Ruth said, “Do not beg me to leave you, to return from following after you. For where you go, I will go. Where you stay, I will stay. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God”. »

Read: Ruth 1:8-16 God’s Word Translation (GWT)

Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go back! Each of you should go back to your mother’s home. May the Lord be as kind to you as you were to me and to our loved ones who have died.

May the Lord repay each of you so that you may find security in a home with a husband.” When she kissed them goodbye, they began to cry loudly.

10 They said to her, “We are going back with you to your people.”

11 But Naomi said, “Go back, my daughters. Why should you go with me? Do I have any more sons in my womb who could be your husbands?

12 Go back, my daughters. Go, because I am too old to get married again. If I said that I still have hope. . . . And if I had a husband tonight. . . . And even if I gave birth to sons,

13 would you wait until they grew up and stay single just for them? No, my daughters. My bitterness is much worse than yours because the Lord has sent me so much trouble.”

14 They began to cry loudly again. Then Orpah kissed her mother-in-law goodbye, but Ruth held on to her tightly.

15 Naomi said, “Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods. Go back with your sister-in-law.”

16 But Ruth answered, “Don’t force me to leave you. Don’t make me turn back from following you. Wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.

Message:
Test from God are designed to prove our faith in Him (Genesis 22:1-18) while temptations come from the devil and from our flesh to draw us into sin (Matthew 4:1, James 1:13).

Our response to test and temptations will determine what will become of us and our generation.

Adam and Eve succumbed to the enemy’s temptation (Genesis 3:1-13) and almost ruined the original purpose of God for mankind. However, Jesus’ victory during His series of temptation in Luke 4:1-13 marked the beginning of redemption for the human race.

In today’s Bible reading, Ruth excelled in her test; this earned her a position in the family line of Jesus Christ (Luke 3:32).

Test are not punishments but stepping stones to promotion. They prove our faith and show our true character.

The following are often tested in life:
Commitment: One’s faithfulness to God could be questioned (Daniel 6).

Foundation: Our strength could also be tested once in a while. (Proverb 24:10).

Appetite: your longing for food, opposite sex and material possession could also be examined (Genesis 25:29-34; Philippians 3:18-19).

God will however, not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can surmount and He will provide an escape route for you.

« No temptation has overtaken you that is unusual for human beings. But God is faithful, and he will not allow you to be tempted beyond your strength. Instead, along with the temptation he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to endure it. »

1 Corinthians 10:13 ISV

Jesus overcame all the temptations by the word of God.

God is calling us today to do the same and we shall have good success (Joshua 1:8) in the mighty name of Jesus.

Prayer point:  Father, please give me the spiritual capacity and moral longsuffering needed to pass the tests and temptations of life.
