« He (Jesus) sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick »
1 Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,
2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me.
3 And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”
4 All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:
5 “Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, lowly, and sitting on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ”
6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them.
7 They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them.
8 And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
9 Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
Hosanna in the highest!”
Today’s Bible reading is very significant to all Christians, especially soul-winners.
Soul-winners are expected to lose their converts from the bondage of Satan and sin.
Jesus said in Mark 16:17-18 GNT
« 17 Believers will be given the power to perform miracles: they will drive out demons in my name; they will speak in strange tongues; 18 if they pick up snakes or drink any poison, they will not be harmed; they will place their hands on sick people, and these will get well. »
We are not supposed to dialogue with the devil and his cohorts; all we need is to exercise our God-given authority.
Our Lord Jesus said in Luke 10:19 AMB
« Listen carefully: I have given you authority [that you now possess] to tread on serpents and scorpions, and [the ability to exercise authority] over all the power of the enemy (Satan); and nothing will [in any way] harm you. »
As soul-winners, we must endeavor to go after entire households and bring them to Christ.
The disciples decorated both the ass and its colt for the use of the Master (Matthew 21:7).
Before our converts can be useful for the Master, we must work on them by the preaching of the word.
The Bible says in 2 Timothy 4:2 AMB
« Preach the word [as an official messenger]; be ready when the time is right and even when it is not [keep your sense of urgency, whether the opportunity seems favorable or unfavorable, whether convenient or inconvenient, whether welcome or unwelcome]; correct [those who err in doctrine or behavior], warn [those who sin], exhort and encourage [those who are growing toward spiritual maturity], with inexhaustible patience and [faithful] teaching »
Another lesson to learn from today’s Bible reading is that we must glorify God through His beloved Son.
God has given Jesus Christ a name that is above every other (Philippians 2:9-10).
This is why the multitudes were singing (Matthew 21:9 NKJV)
« ……. Hosanna to the son of David: ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD! Hosanna in the highest »
Our Lord Himself said (John 14:6 NKJV)
« “…..I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me »
He said further in Revelation 3:20 NLT
« “Look, I (Jesus) stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. »
Finally, both ass and its colt enjoyed the honor accorded their rider Jesus Christ.
When we allow ourselves to be used of the Lord Jesus, His honor will rub off on us, to the glory of His name.
Purify yourself for the Master’s use today, and you will be well rewarded for it.
Prayer focus – Father, please help me to carry out Your Great Commission effectively, bring families and communities into Your kingdom, in the mighty name of Jesus.
