Memorize: 2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
« Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! »
Meditate on: Luke 15:11-24 NET
11 Then Jesus said, “A man had two sons.
12 The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate that will belong to me.’ So he divided his assets between them.
13 After a few days, the younger son gathered together all he had and left on a journey to a distant country, and there he squandered his wealth with a wild lifestyle.
14 Then after he had spent everything, a severe famine took place in that country, and he began to be in need.
15 So he went and worked for one of the citizens of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.
16 He was longing to ea the carob pods the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.
17 But when he came to his senses he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired workers have food enough to spare, but here I am dying from hunger!
18 I will get up and go to my father and say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.
19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me like one of your hired workers.”
20 So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way from home his father saw him, and his heart went out to him; he ran and hugged his son and kissed him.
21 Then his son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.
22 But the father said to his slaves ‘Hurry! Bring the best robe, and put it on him! Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet!
23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it! Let us eat and celebrate
24 because this son of mine was dead, and is alive again—he was lost and is found!’ So they began to celebrate.
17 Anyone who is joined to Christ is a new being; the old is gone, the new has come.
18 All this is done by God, who through Christ changed us from enemies into his friends and gave us the task of making others his friends also.
19 Our message is that God was making all human beings his friends through Christ. God did not keep an account of their sins, and he has given us the message which tells how he makes them his friends.
Understand:
Jesus came for one assignment: to shed His blood for the remission of our sins.
1 John 3:8 CEV says:
« Anyone who keeps on sinning belongs to the devil. He has sinned from the beginning, but the Son of God came to destroy all that he has done. »
For Jesus to erase one’s sins, all they need to do is confess them.
It does not matter how badly you have sinned, the moment one confess and ask Him to be their Lord and Savior, He will cleanse all that unrighteousness away.
The devil however will keep coming to remind you of all your sins.
When he comes, quote 1 John 3:8 NLT to him:
« When someone keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. »
Tell him that the fellow he is talking about is dead because 2 Corinthians 5:17 says that when you give your life to Christ, you become a new creature and old things have passed away; all things have now become new.
Don’t ever allow the devil to make you feel guilty for sins that no longer exist as far as God is concerned.
After confessing your sins, you are to forsake them. Proverbs 28:13 GNT says:
« You will never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins. Confess them and give them up; then God will show mercy to you. »
Forsaking your sins means throwing away anything connected to your old lifestyle and sincerely resolving never to go back to it.
If you still hang around the same friends and places that made you sin, enjoying the same worldly music or movies that your ‘old man’ used to love, then you are unwilling to let God erase your past.
Confess your sins and forsake them today, you will experience peace like never before.
Prayer point: Father, I ask that You erase every sin in my past and give me a brand-new life today in the mighty name of Jesus.
