« But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases »
34 And at the end of the time I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever: For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom is from generation to generation.
35 All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand or say to Him, “What have You done?”
36 At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my honor and splendor returned to me. My counselors and nobles resorted to me, I was restored to my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added to me.
37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down.
The truth about God’s absolute sovereignty is seen in our Bible reading today.
King Nebuchadnezzar declared in Daniel 4:34NLT
« “After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal »
Our memory verse confirms this truth about our God who is in heaven and does as He pleases.
These Scriptures are food for thought for those who would want to live a good life here and in the hereafter.
One major lesson here is that God is capable of doing and undoing anything.
He can kill and He can make alive.
Where then, is the bragging of mere mortals who, by a stroke of grace, are placed in privileged positions and begin to behave like the Almighty?
King Nebuchadnezzar learnt his lesson the hard way, however, God was gracious to him and he lived to tell the story of the consequence of his pride.
King Herod was not as fortunate as Nebuchadnezzar because in his arrogance, an angel of the Lord struck him and he was eaten up by worms before dying (Acts 12:21-23).
One then wonders why those in authority tend to act as if they have the power of life and death.
Some even wrongly allow themselves to be addressed as if they are truly sovereign like the Most High God. This is the reason some of them refuse to allow Christ to reign in their domain. They would do everything possible to obstruct the gospel.
How ignorant they are!
The Psalmist says in Psalm 2:2-4 NKJV
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
3 “Let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us.”
4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision
I can attest to the absolute sovereignty of God in every area of life and that is why I am determined to serve Him for the rest of my days.
It would be best if you did the same.
