Meditate on 1 Corinthians 10:12 MSG
« Don’t be so naïve and self-confident. You’re not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it’s useless. Cultivate God-confidence. »
Read Matthew 5:27-30 NLT
27 You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’
28 But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
29 So if your eye—even your good eye—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
30 And if your hand—even your stronger hand—causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
A fire-quencher is something that reduces your zeal and heat for God.
They are in three categories as listed in 1 John 2:15-17 NLT:
15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.
16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.
17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.
Beware of the lust of the eyes. Samson saw and kept coveting what he had no business desiring (Judges 14:1, Judges 16:1).
In Joshua 7:21, Achan saw and coveted what he had no business touching. It also led to the destruction of himself and his family. Colossians 3:1-2 GWT says:
« 1 Since you were brought back to life with Christ, focus on the things that are above—where Christ holds the honored position—the one next to God the Father on the heavenly throne. 2 Keep your mind on things above, not on worldly things. »
Beware of the lust of the flesh. Paul said if we live by the flesh, then we would die. Romans 8:12-13 ISV
« For if you live according to human nature, you are going to die, but if by the Spirit you continuously put to death the activities of the body, you will live. »
Like Paul, you must keep your flesh under control (1 Corinthians 9:25-27).
It was the lust of the flesh that destroyed Gehazi and Eli’s family.
Beware of the pride of life.
The devil is the father of pride.
He was the first to exhibit pride (Isaiah 14:13-14).
Where pride is, you will find the devil.
Pride quenched his fire when he was an archangel and he is using it now as a tool to quench the fire of many people.
When your sentences are filled with so many “I’s”, beware!
Do not tolerate fire-quenchers in your life because their ultimate goal is to cause eternal death.
Application – Watch out for the basic fire quenchers – lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and the pride of life.
