« The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love »
7 Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.
8 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
9 God showed how much He loved us by sending His one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him.
10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
Verse 8Amplified of our text which is our memory verse, says
« The one who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love. [He is the originator of love, and it is an enduring attribute of His nature.] »
This Scripture implies that not all people we find in Church know God or can be trusted.
The early Church leaders did not take the issue of love lightly because they knew godliness is tested by the amount of love a believer possesses.
Paul the Apostle prayed thus, 1 Thessalonians 3:12-13NLT.
« And may the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and overflow, just as our love for you overflows. May he, as a result, make your hearts strong, blameless, and holy as you stand before God our Father when our Lord Jesus comes again with all his holy people »
- It takes love to be godly because God is love.
This love made Him give up His only begotten Son as a sacrifice for us so that we would not perish, John 3:16 and 1 John 4:9.
This is the standard that the Almighty God has set for those who claim to be His children.
Love makes people go the extra mile in helping others.
Jesus commended the good Samaritan in Luke 10:33-37 because the proof of God in us is doing good.
Our Lord Jesus Christ demonstrated this as recorded in Acts 10:38NKJV
« how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. »
James the Apostle described love in practical terms when he wrote, James 2:18GWT
« Another person might say, “You have faith, but I do good things.” Show me your faith apart from the good things you do. I will show you my faith by the good things I do »
The proof of godliness is service to humanity, according to 2 Timothy 2:21. John 15:9BSB also says
« As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Remain in My love »
It is a divine commandment for all children of God to continue in His love. Are you living in the love of Christ ?
Prayer focus – Father, please fill me with every good work and let me reflect Your love to the world.
